Father’s day is coming up. So in honor of all dads around the world, we have prepared an activity guide of what you can do with your dad, how to buy gifts, and many other things.
Since the actual situation with Covid-19, this year’s celebration might look a bit different than usual. However, this doesn’t mean you should forget about this lovely holiday at all. If you don’t have a chance to dine together, there are many other ways you can show your father how much he means to you.
There is still enough time to organize this year’s Father’s day activities. This year, Father’s day is on Sunday, June 21, 2020.
The History of Father’s Day
Believe it or not Father’s day was created by a woman. According to some historical sources, the first Father’s day was celebrated back in 1909. A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd came up with the idea of celebrating her father. She wanted to create an official equivalent to Mother’s day just for male parents.
During different periods of time, this holiday took a heavy blow. During ‘20 and ‘30 it was replaced with Parents day. Then during the Great Depression the holiday changed. The retailers made it into a commercial day in an attempt to sell products and earn more money during this difficult time.
Finally, in 1972, on May 1, President Richard Nixon declared Father’s day as a national holiday. He wrote: “Let each American make this Father’s Day an occasion for the renewal of the love and gratitude we bear to our fathers, increasing and enduring through all the years,”
Nowadays, father’s day is celebrated all around the world – from Iran to Zimbabwe.
How to Plan for Father’s Day
There are a million ways to celebrate Father’s day. However, since the current situation isn’t the best, and Covid-19 is still around, we have to change some outdoor activities and make them indoors. How to make them interesting and exciting for all your family? These are the things you can do with your family and make Father’s day unforgettable.
Watch a Movie or a TV Show
Some people stayed separated from their dads due to Covid-19. If that is the case with you, use Netflix or Metastream to watch a movie or a TV show at the same time. These apps make it possible for you and your dad to sync streaming and to enjoy watching some of your favorite scenes together. If you are living with your father, then gather the whole family, make popcorn, tortilla and hot sauce and watch your favorite movie or a TV show.
Prepare Dinner Together
Whether you are with your father or not, you can prepare your favorite dish together. Preparing dinner in the kitchen can be quite a fun and exciting activity for the whole family.
However, if your dad is not at the same house, you can watch the online cooking videos and cook virtually. This current situation shouldn’t stop you from doing some of your favorite activities with your dad.
Play a Game
Scrabble or a video game – it doesn’t really matter, as long as you are having fun. No matter what your dad’s favorite game is, there is probably an online version that you can play if you are separated these days.
Bonding is really necessary during these hard times. Play board games, puzzles, or jigsaw and make sure to stay away from the screens.
Watch a Sports Game
Since all sports games are on pause during the epidemic, you can watch some old games with your dad and remember the iconic moments. Start with something that your father likes, and then you can even make a small competition – everybody should have their favorite players and cheer for them.
Listen to a Livestream Concert
Over the last few weeks, many bands and artists decided to organize livestream concerts for their fans. You can check out which artists are performing and enjoy some good quality music with all your family.
