The annual Time 100 Gala took place on April 24, 2018 in New York City. Each year, the gala serves as a gathering of some of the most influential people across the globe, from actors and actresses to activists, political figures, athletes and entrepreneurs. This year, the Time 100 Gala took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center, where an elegant backdrop was created for the world’s most elite to strut their stuff and show off their best formal evening fashions.
The Time 100 Gala is one of the biggest red carpet events of the year. Honorees flood the scene dressed to the nines in their best suits, dazzling gowns, jumpsuits and the latest evening fashions. As with any red carpet event, there were looks that were memorable for all the right reasons and others that stole the spotlight for being all wrong.
The 2018 Time 100 Gala Looks We Loved
Jennifer Lopez graced the red carpet in a stunning gown from Zuhair Murad. The actress kept the look classy even with a plunging neckline and a high leg slit, which were offset by elegant gold and details over a shimmering gray tulle skirt.
Emily Blunt and Nicole Kidman both kept it classy and classic with flattering black dresses. Emily Blunt wore a form fitting look from Brock Collection that combined lace, ruffles and white flowers on a black backdrop in all the right places. Nicole Kidman wore a modest black dress from Proenza Schouler that kept her covered but still looked sexy.
Our list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the fun LBD that Yara Shahidi wore from Reem Acra. The sleeveless dress gave off a sporty vibe while maintaining enough elegance for the event. A low waistline merged into a knee-length ruffle skirt. Fun embellishments like a graphic print and a red collar completed this adorable look.
Time 100 Gala Looks We Didn’t Love
Greta Gerwig appeared on the red carpet wearing a long-sleeved, purple velvet Gucci dress. When worn properly, purple velvet can appear timeless and elegant, but this look missed the mark.
Aly Raisman tried to pull off a sophisticated look in a sleek white jumpsuit, but the legs were way too long and the proportions weren’t as flattering as they could have been.
Lastly, Deepika Padukone walked the carpet in a white Anamika Khanna gown that looked like a wedding dress gone wrong. One shoulder was ruffled while the other had a long train trailing from it. The front of the dress was embellished with white flowers. The only word that comes to mind is tacky, tacky, tacky.
The Time 100 Gala is the perfect event to see how celebs do formal evening dressing. Even the ladies who made our list of looks we didn’t love still appeared elegant in their evening attire.
